How I search for Flight Deals on my Own

My favorite site to find flight deals: Skyscanner.com - Type in your closet airports as your starting location and for your Destination type click "Can't Decide Where? Click Here for Everywhere".  Then either search by months or play around with the dates for the cheapest flight options.

You can potentially do this with Google Flights and other flight search sites, but Skyscanner is my favorite.

Common Budget Airlines

How to cope with Budget Airline Restrictions without losing your mind.

Baggage Restrictions by Airlines

The most important part of traveling on a dime is figuring out how to pack lighter. I caught a budget flight recently and roundtrip for my checked or carryon bag alone was $150. With $150, that's 2 excurstions or 3 meals, or an extra night in a hotel, or my taxi ride to and from the airport. When traveling on a budget, remember that it's about new experiences, not having 50 different outfit changes. Consider packing wardrobe basics that you can use interchangeably with outfits. It's easier to pack lighter when visitng warm climates where you are wearing bathing suits ansd coverups everyday. However, I was able to do a 2 week winter trip to Europe and carried everything in  a backpack (as my carryon) and a large purse (as my personal item). I did this by wearing my heaviest clothing on travel days. If you are truly backpacking you might want to find a local laundromat to do laundry. That shouldn't cost no more than $5.

Why Hostels are Awesome! And why they are not!

I've stayed in around 10-15 hostels all around the world. I love the sense of community that hostels offer. For me, if I don't plan to spend a lot of time in the hotel, and I know that the trip will be spend exploring all day and into the evening, then hostels work for me. I've also done a lot of solo travel, so hostels were a great way for me to meet other solo travelers coming from different parts of the world.

Here are all of the places (that I can remember) where I stayed in a hostel: Brussels, Amsterdam, Dubai, Phnom Penh Cambodia, Singapore, Iceland, Vienna Austria, Dublin Ireland, Berlin Germany, Copenhagen Denmark, London England

Even now that I'm not a struggling college/grad student, I would still choose to stay in hostels when travelling solo. I may spring the extra $30 a night for a private room LOL!
